    Carl Peter Thunberg, 1743-1828, a professor of medicine and botany in the University of Uppsala, is regarded as the last of Linnĉus's disciples. This presidential speech, on the customs, contemporary conditions of life and medical practices in Japan, as well as the country's flora, is catalogued as 'Contribution to the History of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences No. 39'.
