What's New Mar 2009

Outside In brings the ‘World’ to World Book Day.

World Book Day on 5 March 2009 sees the launch of an innovative project, ‘Reading Round the World’.
The programme is the brainchild of Outside In (the UK organisation dedicated to promoting and exploring world literature), and will see a host of international authors and illustrators brought especially to the UK during 2009 to join facilitators and translators to celebrate books from around

Independent "long list"

The Independent has announced its "long-list" of 16 titles for the 2009 Foreign Fiction Award. It includes:
Alexander Ahndoril: The Director (Portobello) tr Sarah Death
Linn Ullmann: A Blessed Child (Picador) tr Sarah Death (Norwegian)
Dag Solstad: Novel 11, Book 18 (Harvill) tr Sverre Lyngstad (Norwegian)
Sjon: The Blue Fox (Telegram) tr Victoria Cribb (Icelandic)
 
The shortlist of 6 will be announced in April, the winner in May.
